Dr. VS Arunachalam is the Founder and Chairman of CSTEP. He has to his credit several contributions in the field of science and technology. His career as a scientist includes Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, National Aeronautical Laboratory in Bengaluru and Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory in Hyderabad. He was head of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) prior to serving as Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister, Government of India. Dr. Arunachalam is a Collaborating Professor, Engineering and Public Policy, at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. He is a member of the Advisory and Editorial Boards of several universities and foundations including the Materials Research Society Bulletin.
He is also a recipient of several prestigious awards and honours, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Engineering Sciences. He was the first Indian to be elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK. He was conferred the Padma Bhushan (1985) and the Padma Vibhushan (1990) for his contribution to Indian science.
In 2015, he was awarded Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO’s) lifetime achievement award for his outstanding contribution in the field of scientific research and technology.
Shri Prafull Anubhai is an educationist besides being a Corporate Advisor. He is a management consultant and is affiliated with prominent educational institutions which include Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and Ahmedabad Education Society. He has over 30 years of experience as the Chief Executive of Textile Manufacturing Operations and is currently the Director of several leading companies.
His deep interest in Indian classical music encouraged him to be associated with the Saptak Archives, an institution dedicated to Indian classical music.
Professor Ranganathan is an Emeritus Professor and is currently Honorary and INAE Distinguished Professor at the Indian Institute of Science and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru. As a specialist in Physical Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Prof. Ranganathan has made outstanding contributions in field-ion and electron microscopy, structure of interfaces and quasicrystals. He is a recipient of the Platinum Medal from the Indian Institute of Metals, the MRSI medal and the Materials Science Prize from the Indian National Science Academy. His contributions have been recognised by fellowships to five academies and numerous awards. At NIAS, his work include materials heritage, an atlas of India in Science and Societal Impact of Nanotechnology.
Dr. Ajay Mathur is the Director General of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and has been appointed the Director General of TERI. Through the star labelling programme for appliances; Energy Conservation Building Code; and the Performance, Achieve and Trade (PAT) programme for energy industries, Dr. Mathur is responsible for bringing energy efficiency into homes, offices and factories. He is also a member of several prestigious committees which include the Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change and was also the Indian spokesperson at the 2015 climate negotiations in Paris. He was conferred the Outstanding Alumni Award of the University of Illinois in 2002. Dr. Mathur is the co-author of three books and the lead author of several reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Shri SV Ranganath served as the Chief Secretary to the Government of Karnataka. In addition, he served as the Chairman of the Board at IFCI Limited and was also the Additional Independent Director. In his career, he worked in various capacities with both the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka. Some of the key ones include Principal Secretary to various Chief Ministers of Karnataka; Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Department of Space; and Member (Finance) of the Space Commission, Atomic Energy Commission and Earth Commission. During his tenure as Chief Secretary, he encouraged the involvement of think tanks in enriching government policymaking.
Dr Anshu Bharadwaj is the Executive Director of Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), Bengaluru and is also a member on the CSTEP Board.His research interests are in technology and policy options for India’s clean energy. He specialises in computational modelling of energy systems. He is a member of several committees at national and state levels and made important contributions in clean energy technology policy subjects. He is a former member of the Indian Administrative Services (IAS), (1992 batch - Karnataka) and worked with the Government of Karnataka in various capacities. He holds a Ph.D from the Departments of Engineering and Public Policy and Mechanical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University. He also has a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and a Management degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata.
